BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
(From the journal Aigiali, no. 27, December – January 1969)

Amorgos troubadour has died
It was with real sorrow that the Amorgians, and those who knew him, learned of the untimely death of Spyros Vlavianos (Katomeritis). He was for Amorgos the most representative type of folk singer and instrumentalist, who participated in every celebration and festival of the island.
An improviser and a self-taught poet, he composed and sang the appropriate song for each man or woman who danced, touching the emotional strings of the guests with all that was good and beautiful in praise of them.
He represented and promoted the Amorgian song and dances at the dance festival of Dora Stratou, who rightly described him as the representative island singer and instrumentalist.
But this fine Amorgian troubadour was lost so prematurely and left his wife and children without a patron and means to cope with life’s needs.
