According to George Mavros’ notes, his informant was: N. D. Giannakos, 85 years old, shepherd, illiterate. He had heard it from Georgakis of Liena, a shepherd who died around 1950. G. Mavros notes that the eagle is called “poulos” by the locals and, as a predator, represents a great calamity to animals, especially newborn goats. The shepherds were using a spell against the eagle which he also recorded. When the eagle stays still at a great height and observes, it is said to be observing.
